Laura A. Pephens, CPA - Managing Principal / CEO
Ms. Pephens founded Pephens & Co., Inc. during 1995 where she is the Managing Principal. Laura manages all engagements and continues to have a hands-on approach with all Client Relationships.
Laura has devoted 25 years to the financial services industry and since 1995 has successfully assisted over 200 Clients address pressing business issues. Pephens’ expertise includes a broad spectrum of Strategic, Financial, Productivity and Technology matters. Laura’s success is primarily attributable to her careful approach, best-practice expertise and expansive industry insight.
Ms. Pephens recently rolled off from her Board position with the California Mortgage Bankers Association after 9 years, 6 of which she served on the Executive Committee. She also maintains Board positions with the Harbour Area Halfway Houses, Inc.; Christ Lutheran Church and several mid-sized mortgage lenders. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; California and Texas Society of CPA’s; the San Diego State Alumni Association; and, the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation. Ms. Pephens is a CPA licensed in California and Texas and has a B.S. in Accounting from San Diego State University.
Between 1995 and today, Laura has embarked upon various ventures in addition to PC. These ventures have included an ownership interest in Strategy + Capital Partners, LLC (focus upon increasing Client market capitalization with a unique combination of capital infusion and the design and implementation of innovative strategies with radical new business models. Additionally, Laura acquired a portion of Global Systems Integration, Inc. (a technology integration company) and became its President and Chairman. In this role, Ms. Pephens was responsible for leading the professional services division of the company as well as managing marketing, strategy, financial, legal, HR and the general operations of the company.
Prior to these ventures Ms. Pephens directed the Southern California Mortgage Banking practice for Coopers & Lybrand and was an integral part of the firm's National Mortgage Banking Industry Service Group; worked for Grant Thornton where her responsibilities included coordinating consulting services and financial audits with a specialization in mortgage banking, commercial banking and the thrift industries. Her primary responsibility was to administer and manage all services for Countrywide Credit Industries, Inc., Grant Thornton's largest and most active financial institution; and earliest in her professional career, Laura worked at Touche Ross & Co., where she provided audit and consulting services primarily relating to annual audits, regulatory reporting, budgetary and operational forecasts, operational efficiency evaluations, and testing collateral valuations of financial institutions operating throughout the states of California and Texas.
